" Since the journalistic multimedia field is new, not many newspapers and magazines yet offer internships in this area. The USP has allowed me to learn from a top multimedia producer and become well-educated in this new medium."
Dave is a senior majoring in journalism, with a concentration in photojournalism. He has won several photography awards including first place in the news/sports category in the 2002 Hearst competition, honorable mention for general news in the College Photographer of the Year competition and honorable mention for sports action in the Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar competition.
Research Description:
Journalistic Multimedia: Changing the Focus of Photojournalism
This summer I'm learning the theories behind journalistic multimedia storytelling. Each week I'm gathering audio, taking pictures or both, then editing them both for content. Once those two objectives are met, I then have to put them into a working, well-designed and self-contained online presentation utilizing Macromedia Flash 5, a computer program. I've been working on a summer-long multimedia package about a local racetrack in North Carolina that deals with the above. Every project is primarily targeted for the Internet, using the local newspaper website to showcase each work. It is very similiar to that of WashingtonPost.com and MSNBC.com/
