2000 - 2001 University Scholar
Mentor: Jose Principe

College of Engineering

"Working with Dr. Principe has taught me what it takes to be an excellent engineer. The research I've done with him has opened my eyes to new areas. It left me with more questions than answers, but this is a good thing because I will be able to learn more than I already have."

Mina Goor is a senior computer engineering major from Tallahassee, Florida. His research interests are computer architecture and artificial intelligence. Mina is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) at UF.

Research Description:

The goal of the project is to develop an efficient real-time speech communication technique. This is accomplished by separating the content of the speech from the speaker's voice characteristics ,and recombining them at the receiver's end. A real-time pitch detection and voice classification algorithms were developed. The algorithm was integrated with a voice synthesizer. The synthesizer will save the speaker's voice characteristics in its memory. When supplied by speaker's pitch and speech content-Speech content refers to phonemes uttered by the speaker, the synthesizer will recombine them with the speakers voice characteristics, thus recreating speech similar to the original.
