the Road to Research: Interdisciplinary collaborations boost federal
grants for CLAS
Dreaming about roads is what keeps Stephen Perz awake at night. The associate
professor of sociology has received five grants to date to
help solve a simple question with complex answers: What happens when you
build a road in the middle of the Amazon?

Have High Rankings for Study-Abroad Students and International Students
and Scholars
The University of Florida ranks 11th nationally in the number
of students studying abroad, according to the Open Doors report by the
Institute of International Education.

French Ambassador Jean-David Levitte spoke to a crowd of more than 400
UF faculty and students on October 3.

Scholars Explore South Africa
While spending two weeks in the South African capital of Pretoria, the
Lombardi Scholars had the chance to meet with fellow college students from
the University of Pretoria and attend lectures on South African history
and politics, the HIV/AIDS crisis, and US foreign policy in the region.

Hindu Traditions: UF Establishes Nation's First Center for the Study
of Hindu Traditions (CHiTra)
To encourage the research, teaching and public understanding
of the Hindu culture, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has established
the country's first Center for the Study of Hindu Traditions (CHiTra).
The only other center of its kind in the world is Oxford University's Centre
for Hindu Studies, with which UF will have collaborations.
Harrison
Receives International Anthropology Award
Faye Harrison, a professor of African American studies and anthropology,
has received the 2004 Society for the Anthropology of North America (SANA)
Prize for Distinguished Achievement in the Critical Study of North America.
