Interdisciplinary Studies
Frequently Asked Questions After Entering the IDS Program
Where can I learn about undergraduate or graduate scholarships?
Information regarding CLAS undergraduate scholarships are available on line at http://www.clas.ufl.edu/scholarships/index.html or in the College Dean's Office, 2014 Turlington Hall.
You may also contact the Honor's Office (140 Tigert); http://www.honors.ufl.edu/
What should the thesis look like?
The page length varies greatly, depending on the nature of the research. Library research papers tend to be longer than papers based on empiricial data. Empiricial papers should follow the format of the discipline (e.g., introduction, method, results, discussion). All theses should have headings and subheadings to guide the reader. You should clearly state the hypotheses or questions asked. Consult with your faculty advisor about his or her expectations regarding these format issues.
What grade will I receive for IDS 4906 (thesis research) if my research is still in progress?
Your sponsor may turn in 1) a grade of I, which will become a regular grade after you turn in your thesis, or 2) a regular grade based on your current work if there is enough evidence on which to base a grade.
What do I have to do about graduation?
During your next to last semester, before registering, check your credits carefully to make sure that you have fulfilled all College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (e.g., foreign language, lab coures, extra science, elective requirement) and UF requirements. Midway through your last semester you will need to register for graduation with Academic Advising, we will send you a list of steps to take for the graduation process (e.g., formally applying to graduate in a particular term). The Associate Dean will check your record and certify that you have fulfilled your major requirements.
