The purpose of the meeting was to prepare a position announcement, and discuss our general search timetable. First, Ted asked Paula to outline some of the search procedures required by the college and university; she passed around copies of the C.L.A.S. search checklist, and gave the committee members URLs for several important search-related U.F. websites.
Then we turned to construction of the statement of duties and responsibilities of the position (advertisement). We started with a preliminary copy of the ad that had been sent to the committee by Doug Soltis, chair of the Dept. of Botany, and spent nearly all of our time discussing potential changes to our preliminary ad. We made several minor changes, and moved the proposed deadline for submission of materials to January 7th. The position is intended to increase the strength of our systematics group within the department.
We then discussed which electronic sites and journals should publish the ad. The funds available to support this search were also briefly discussed.
