Minutes for CLAS Task Force on Shared Governance

Attendance
Present: Ron Randles, John Moore, Barbara Zsembik, John Leavey, Steve Perz, Carol Murphy, Jodi Lane, Jed Keesling, Rick Yost, David Hackett, Bret Sefarian.
Absent: Jane Brockmann, Allan Burns.
Minutes
- The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm by Jed Keesling.
- There were no corrections or additions to the minutes of February 15, so those minutes stand approved. They will be forwarded to Jeff Stevens for posting at the committee website.
- The committee reviewed the Master Document which will become the proposed revised CLAS Constitution. Several revisions were proposed. John Leavey will incorporate the revisions agreed upon at the committee's wiki website.
- At
the next meeting the committee will consider the following items.
- Faculty rights and responsibilities including a statement on academic freedom.
- A definition of administrative unit addressed in the Constitution. It was deemed that all Departments should be in this category, but that not all Centers and Programs should be. The committee will seek the advice of Allan Burns on the subject.
- Should the Amendment process be changed?
- At the request of the committee, John Moore, Chair of the College Assembly, will contact the the Provost inquiring when the search for the new dean of CLAS will begin.
- The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 pm.
