Minutes
- The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm by Jed Keesling.
- The following items were discussed for inclusion in a revised version of the CLAS Constitution to bring it up to the standards required for shared governance.
- Carol Murphy presented the current version of the preamble for discussion. There were no suggestions for changes.
- Ron Randles presented the current version of the section defining membership of the Faculty. There was a question about members of the Academic Advising Center. Ron would check into the status of members of that Center. It was thought that there would likely be discussion about this issue in the CLAS Assembly and so the wording needs to be thought through very carefully.
- Jed brought up concerns expressed by Anna Peterson, Chair of the Nominating Committee. Her concerns were that there were too many nominations required and too few faculty willing to serve. It was pointed out that in the future, there would not be so many nominations required. Only those rotating off the Finance Committee and the Faculty Council would be replaced. It was also pointed out that if the problem continues, the Faculty Council could recommend a change.
- Barbara Zsembik recommended wording to replace the current wording for the Promotion and Tenure Committee. There were two suggestions. The revised version will be posted at the wiki website.
- John Moore presented suggested wording for the section on Faculty Rights and Faculty Responsibilities. The wording was modified from the DCP Constitution. There was discussion and some suggested revisions. John will post the revised version at the wiki website.
- Jed brought up that the revised CLAS Constitution was not posted at the CLAS governance website. Jed also asked if there were any changes to be made in the posted minutes. The approved minutes will be posted at the committee website.
Respectfully submitted,
Jed Keesling, Chair
CLAS Task Force on Shared Governance
