Minutes
- The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm.
- The minutes of the past meetings were approved by unanimous consent. The minutes of the last two meetings will be sent to Jeff Stevens to be posted at the committee website.
- There was a brief discussion of the outline of the CLAS Constitution which was placed on the wiki workspace by John Leavey. It was agreed to use this as a working outline for putting together the revised Constitution.
- Carol Murphy mentioned that the meeting of the committee might be videotaped as part of the fundraising drive. A film crew would be following her activities on February 15 and this committee meeting would be part of those activities. The committee were agreeable to this. Carol said that the producers told her not wear red, white, or plaid on that day as it would not film well.
- Carol Murphy then presented a proposed preamble. This had been uploaded to the wiki site. There were some minor editorial suggestions. There was also a suggestion to include some statement about students. Carol will incorporate the suggestions and John will add a comment about what might be added about students.
- Jed brought up about the newly revised Constitution. It had been uploaded to the wiki site and no one had suggested that there were any mistakes in the revision. Jed will forward a copy to Jeff Stevens to replace the current version of the Constitution. He will let Jeff decide on the formatting. If the committee does not like that formatting, we can ask for a change later.
- Ron Randles presented a first attempt at defining who are the Faculty of the College. There were several suggestions which Ron will incorporate in the next version at the wiki site. During the discussion, Allan Burns mentioned that emeritus faculty are not members of the CLAS Faculty. Departments may accord them voting rights within that department.
- John Moore presented discussed material which he had distributed last time concerning academic freedom. Jed asked John to also include some materials about Faculty rights and responsibilities in addition to academic freedom. The Constitution of the School of Design, Construction, and Planning a good section on this topic.
- The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jed Keesling, Chair
CLAS TFSG
