Minutes
- The meeting came to order at 1:05 pm. John Moore brought up to items of concern. The first was that Sarah Fitzpatrick will only be available to assist in elections, not in securing rooms or other business of the Task Force. This was a decision arrived at by Dean Glover in reviewing her workload and job description. David Hackett said that he would see if he could not arrange secretarial help for the committee through the Department of Religion.
- John Moore also pointed out that there needs to be an opportunity for the Assembly to nominate candidates for Senator from the floor after the slate of nominees has been proposed by the Nominating Committee. The deadline for this is March 15. This is earlier than this committee anticipated for the next Assembly meeting. John said that he would talk to Danaya Wright about this deadline.
- Carol Murphy brought up that the Finance Committee was considering framing a statement about the mission of CLAS. A mission statement should be included in the CLAS Constitution.
- There was discussion about other
changes needed in the CLAS Constitution. It was decided to divide up
the work of revising the Constitution.
- Rick Yost and John Leavey will look at the overall organization of the document. The model for this would be the Constitution of the School of Design, Construction, and Planning.
- Carol Murphy will work on a preamble which would include a more comprehensive statement of mission for CLAS.
- John Moore will look at the section of the Constitution concerning Faculty Duties and Faculty Rights including academic freedom.
- Ron Randles will look into the Membership of the College.
- John Leavey also volunteered to recruit a graduate student to help set up a blog site to view and edit documents under review by the committee.
- The meeting adjourned at 1:40 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Jed Keesling, Chair
CLAS Task Force on Shared Governance
