- Dr. Lisa Edmonds, assistant professor, CSD, has been invited to speak at the International Neuropsychology Society Conference on February 13, 2009 in Atlanta GA. The symposium is entitled Principles of Experience-Dependent Rehabilitation: From Animals to Aphasia Treatment.” Dr. Edmonds talk is entitled The Effect of Verb Network Strengthening Treatment (VNeST) on Sentence Production in Persons with Aphasia.”
- Professor Patricia Kricos Ph.D. is one of two American audiologists competitively selected to participate in an Ida Institute seminar in Denmark in January. Established in 2007 with a $10 million grant from the William Demant and Wife Ida Emilie Foundation, the Ida Institute seeks to foster a better understanding of the human dynamics of hearing loss from its recognition to its resolution.
- Dr. Judy Wingate will serve as chair of the Conflict of Interest Committee for the ASHA Continuing Education Board from 2008-2010.

- The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Teaching/Advising Awards Committee has selected Amlan Biswas to receive one of the 2008-2009 College Teaching Awards.
- A recently published paper by the CDMS experiment has been highlighted in the APS "Physics Spotlight".
- The latest issue of Symmetry Magazine features an essay by Jordan Sorokin, a high-school student, who recently toured
Fermilab with Jacobo Konigsberg. As a result, Jordan is extremely
interested in pursuing a career in Physics, particle physics, in
particular.
- Adrian Roitberg's work, Pathways to Prevention, was recently featured in
Access, a publication from the University of Illinois.
- The Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and the American Physical Society (APS) have awarded the India-US Professorship to Profs. Yoonseok Lee and Shankar Das (Jawaharlal Nehru University). The Professorship assists institutions in India and the U.S. wishing to collaborate with scientists in the other country to deliver short courses or a lecture series. Prof. Das will be guest lecturer in Gainesville this summer as part of the 2009 CCMS Summer Lecture Series entitled, Freezing of liquids into crystalline and amorphous states. CCMS will also provide partial support for this lecture series in addition to the $4,000 grant received from the APS.
- Former High Energy Theory student, Kyoungchul
Kong, now finishing his first postdoc at Fermilab, has
been awarded an LHC Theory Initiative Postdoctoral
Fellowship in the amount of $150,000 over two years.
There is only one such postdoctoral fellowship
each year (in addition, there are several graduate
fellowships at 40k each). The awards are made by a
selection committee, through a national competition. View last year's
press release for the inaugural LHC-TI awards. - Congratulations to Physics
student, Chao Cao (Chair,
Hai-Ping Cheng), who
was recently awarded the 2008 Metropolis Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Work in Computational Physics. Cao’s thesis title is First-Principles and Multi-Scale Modeling of Nano-Scale Systems. Cao graduated in Fall 2008.
