African and Asian Languages and Literatures
- Fiona McLaughlin has been named an ACLS/SSRC/NEH International and Area Studies Fellow for the 2008-2009 academic year. During the tenure of her fellowship she will complete a book entitled Dakar Wolof: The Language of an African City.

- Speech pathology graduate student Betsy Gill has been awarded the 2008 Larry Director Scholarship from the Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
- CSD students Jason Schmitt and Nicole Rose have been awarded 2008 Service to Mankind (SERTOMA) scholarships. Jason Schmitt is a 3rd year Au.D. student, and Nicole Rose, an incoming 1st year Au.D. student.
Dial Center for Written and Oral Communication
- Ed Kellerman has won a Course Development Grant from the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. He and his brother Phil, president of the Harvest of Hope Foundation, will be teaching an upper division course entitled "Non Profit Leadership". They will use their experiences setting up the nation's only non profit organization for migrant farmworkers to further the careers of students interested in working in the public sector or setting up their own non profit organization.

- Jeff Rice (PhD, 2002) has become the new Director of the University of Missouri’s Campus Writing Program.
- Joanna Shearer (PhD, 2007) has accepted a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of English at Nevada State College.
Math
- John Thompson was awarded the 2008 Abel Prize by King Harald V of Norway. Mathematics chair Krishnaswami Alladi, who was present at the cermony, has issued a report on the 2008 Abel Prize Ceremony and related events that took place in Oslo. He has also provided a report on the Keene Faculty Center reception that was held for Professor Thompson on March 27.
Psychology
- Don Dewsbury, recently retired from the department, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Psychological Association division 26 (History of Psychology) at the August 2008 annual meeting.
