2004 Seminar ParticipantsLinda A. WinchesterGlenridge Middle School; Orlando Linda graduated from Mundelein College/ Loyola University Chicago. She began her teaching career at Notre Dame High School for Girls. She currently teaches 6th grade geography. Thoughts on her lesson plan. This year I am teaching 7th grade Geography and our curriculum does not include Asia. I have however, tried to work it in. We spend part of the first and second nine weeks covering the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in Europe and the age of exploration. I have used Ebrey's Chinese Civilization to compare life in China during the Middle Ages compared to life in England. I have read excerpts from The Pillow Book on how nobility was treated in Asia vs. nobility in Europe. When we discussed the need for exploration we took a look at the Silk Road and how trade occurred there. After a while the students themselves will make observations on what was happening in China at the time of the Renaissance.
