K-12 Outreach
Florida Seminar for Teaching about Asia
The UF Asian Studies Program has coordinated two annual seminars for teachers, in association with the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia, during the summer and the academic year. The program offers elementary, middle and high school teachers the opportunity to learn about Asian history, culture, politics, and art, and ways to integrate Asia into their curricula while interacting with academicians and their own peers. Seminars are led by experts in the field. Teachers will develop and present a lesson plan, and will meet for a foll0w-up session to analyze how they were able to integrate their lesson plan into their year of instruction.
Benefits for teachers in either seminar include college credit or in-service points, honoraria, seminar materials, and books on Asia for their school library. On-site housing was provided for the summer seminar.
