Reasons to Give

Why Give to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences?

Private support- gifts from Corporations, Foundations, Alumni, and friends of the University of Florida- is the mechanism by which our school has established itself as a State assisted institution. Less than half of our budget is now provided by the state of Florida. This enables our university to set its own track of success by attracting the best students and faculty, providing funds for program improvement and facility enhancement, and securing monies for the general university endowment.

By giving to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, you are providing support that will not only maintain the program of education you remember, but improve the quality and competitiveness the College needs to compete nationally.

Why should I give to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences?

Because you can make a difference and it just makes sense; whether you fund an endowed professorship or fellowship, an individual department, or the general fund, your money will make a difference and leave your mark on the college. Investing in the College allows you to take part in something you love, it gives you some ownership of your alma mater, and it helps create strong connections to campus.

What benefits are there for me to give?

Besides leaving a legacy for current students to follow, you also are setting the trend for the future. At some point in your life, someone lent you a helping hand. There are students who need that help now. Your gift will help them to succeed and in turn help others in their own time. Additionally, a gift to your alma mater has tax and estate benefits.

What are the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences greatest needs?

Professorships, Fellowships, Scholarships, laboratory renovations, improvement of facilities, technology support… the list goes on. Please visit our How to Donate page for more details.

Doesn’t the state of Florida pay for that?

With state budget cuts, most state universities have come to rely on themselves for funding initiatives; the University of Florida is no different. Much of our budget comes from interested individuals who want to see the college succeed- people like you. Now, more than ever, we need private support to make our college competitive on the national level.

I paid tuition when I was in school, why should I give now?

Unlike buying a car or a house, an education is not a one-time-deal. Your degree is worth only as much as the reputation of the institute from which it is given. By investing in your college, you are cementing the foundation of education offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and enhancing its prestige.
