Nelson G. Williams (PhD, Latin American Studies) is an attorney, freelance writer and retired history professor in Florida City. He was a contributor to America's Standard Gauge Electric Trains, published in 1998, by Antique Trader Books. 1958 John R. Howell (BS & MS, Mathematics) is a retired associate professor of biostatistics living in Bradenton, Florida. He has published 45 papers--three since his retirement--in biological, statistical, medical and engineering journals. 1961 Robert K. Carley (BA & MA, Political Science) is a professor of political science. He was recently promoted to Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the Faculty at Newberry College in South Carolina. 1964 Gail Duganne Gregg (BA, English) is a professor of English education at Florida International University where she recently received an Excellence in Teaching Award. 1967 David C. Hague (BA, Political Science) earned his JD from West Virginia University in 1974, his LLM from Georgetown University in 1985, and his MA in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College in 1992. He is a retired attorney and Brigadier General for the US Marine Corps. Blaise Picchi (BA, Political Science) is an attorney in Ft. Lauderdale. He recently published The Five Weeks of Guiseppe Zangara, a history of the man who attempted to assassinate Franklin Roosevelt in 1933. The book also contains a story about UF and the Florida Alligator. 1969  Shelley Bowen Hatfield (BA, Spanish) (right) is a historian and adjunct professor in Durango, Colorado. She completed her MA in 1971 at Tulane University, where she received a Ford Foundation Fellowship, and her PhD in 1983 at the University of New Mexico, where she received a Tinker Foundation research grant. Her book Chasing Shadows: Apaches and Yaquis Along the United States-Mexico Border, 1876-1911 was published in 1998 by the University of New Mexico Press.
1971 Kenneth Abate (PhD, Chemistry) is a director of research and development in Medford, Wisconsin. He is on the Board of Directors of KABO Chemical Co. and VY Inc. Deirdra (Hooley) McAfee (BA, English) is a fiction writer in Richmond, Virginia. She received a fellowship in fiction to the MacDowell Colony in 1997, was named a Tennessee Williams Scholar at the Suwannee Writers' Conference in 1998, and was the Fiction Winner of Poets and Writers' 1998 Writers Exchange Competition. 1972 Henry V. Gomez (BA, History) is a quality control analyst for the Department of Children and Families in Miami, Florida. W. Stuart Towns (MA & PhD, Speech) is Professor and Department Chair of Communication Arts at the University of West Florida. His books Oratory and Rhetoric in the Nineteenth-Century South: A Rhetoric of Defense and Public Address in the Twentieth-Century South: The Evolution of a Region were recently published by Praeger Publishing Company. 1978 Kimberly Ashby (BA, Political Science) is an attorney specializing in commercial and construction litigation, mortgage and lien foreclosure, landlord/tenant and appellate practice at Akerman, Senterfitt & Edison, P.A. in Orlando. She has published articles in various legal journals and received an award for her work as Editor-In-Chief of The Briefs. 1979 Jeff Spurrier (BS, Mathematics) earned his MBA from Stanford University and is the Chief Operating Officer of C-Bridge Internet Solutions in Michigan. He is leading a start-up company with mergers and acquisitions and a planned IPO this year. 1980 James Grippando (BA, Political Science) is a best-selling author of suspense novels. Harper Collins will publish his latest book, Found Money, in February 1999. 1981 Remzey L. (Paul) Samarrai (BA, English) was recently elected to the Micanopy Town Commission and will finish his MA in education administration in April. He also opened the Jamestown Coffee Bar and Pub in Gainesville. Charles J. Schreiber, Jr. (BA, Political Science; MA, Public Administration) is a partner at the law firm of Foley and Lardner in Tallahassee. 1984 Jennifer Schultz (BA, German) is a German specialist for grades K-6. She was appointed Vice President of the Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German and Director of the Georgia State German Convention. 1985 Chuck Davidson (BA, Political Science) received his MIA from Columbia University in 1992 and his LLM in Trade Regulation from New York University School of Law in 1993. He is an attorney in New York with the international law firm of Baker and McKenzie and a Special Professor of Law at Hofstra University Law School. 1986 Murray Laurie (MA, History) is a historic preservation consultant and writer in Gainesville. Her book Florida's Museums and Cultural Attractions was published in 1998 by Pineapple Press. 1987 Charles Robert Greenbaum (MS, Mathematics), an engineer and integration specialist, received his MBA in finance from the University of Colorado in 1998. He has been selected lead mission integrator for the Battle Management and Command and Control Element of the National Missile Defense Program at Kwajalein Missile Range, Marshal Islands.
1991 Stephanie Mann Starr (BS, Psychology) received her MA in social work from Barry University, and is currently a family therapist for the Broward County School Board. She married Adam Starr on November 14, 1998. 1992 Julie Braswell-Ravenell (BA, Criminal Justice) is an educator for Miami-Dade Public Schools and a graduate student at Nova Southeastern University. She was named Sallie Mae Beginning Teacher of the Year in 1996, and was a Justice Teaching Institute Fellow of the Supreme Court of Florida. She has two children, Jasmine and Donald, Jr. 1993 Russel Lazegg (BA, Political Science) opened his own law firm in 1998 specializing in insurance collection litigation. Cassandra White (BA & MA, Anthropology) is a PhD candidate at Tulane University. She recently received a Fulbright Fellowship to do research on Hansen's Disease in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 1994 Deborah L. Director (BA, Speech) completed her MS in speech pathology in 1997 and earned her Certificate of Clinical Competence in speech pathology in 1998. She is currently a speech/language pathologist in Boca Raton. 1995 William A. Bohn (BA, Spanish) is a bilingual/ESOL teacher for Orange County Public Schools. He recently received his MA in education from Nova Southeastern University. 1996 Tarassa Innamorato Steele (BA, Geography) is an imagery analyst for the National Imagery and Mapping Agency in Washington, DC. She married Kevin Steele (BA, Sociology) in 1997.

Steve Schneider (MA, Statistics) (right) is the founder and president of Valantex.com, a specialty software company. He started the company in 1998 following eleven years of risk management practice in the consumer finance industry. He is also an active member of the Philadelphia Gator Club.
