New opportunities available

The UF International Center is now accepting applications for an unprecedented number of UF sponsored Study Abroad Programs at the Paris Research Center. A unit expressly designed to create and facilitate international initiatives across campus and across the disciplines, the Paris Research Center is an integral and exciting new component in the University of Florida's commitment to international activities and academic excellence. We offer the opportunity to enroll in: Intensive Week-Long Study Programs over Spring Break, 1-2 Week Intensive Study Abroad Programs during the May Intersession, Summer Study Abroad, and Fall and Spring semester-length programs. These innovative programs for intensive study abroad in Paris were expressly created to provide in-depth on-site international experiences. All UF students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are encouraged to apply!

Programs Offered at the Paris Research Center

FALL SEMESTER

  • International Affairs and the Public Sphere
    (UF Credits: 12-16).
    Application Deadline: TBA
    (September – December 2010) A new international opportunity for UF students, the International Affairs and the Public Sphere (IAPS) program is designed for students who seek to gain an international perspective and to prepare for the global challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century. Courses are offered in cooperation with the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Department of Political Science, and the Department of Public Relations of the College of Journalism and Communications.
  • Landscape Architecture at the Paris Research Center
    (UF credits: 9-12)
    Application Deadline: TBA

    (September – December 2010) —
    A unique opportunity to explore landscape architecture and urban design in Paris. A full semester design studio explores rational and minimalist design methodologies supported by experienced faculty and guest French professionals in the field. Design studio work is complemented with tours in Paris and its surrounding regions, France and other European countries.

SPRING SEMESTER

  • Honors in Paris

    (January 6 – May 14, 2010) — An exciting partnership between the Honors Program and the PRC offers the opportunity for high achieving students to enroll in challenging, interactive UF courses, enhanced by numerous excursions, guest speakers, site visits, tours and many other activities. The curriculum of this semester-long interdisciplinary program is tailored around the theme: Engagements with Modern France: Images, Texts and Cultures.
  • Intensive Weeklong Study over Spring Break

    (March 7 – 13, 2010) — Innovative programs for intensive study abroad in Paris expressly created to provide in-depth on-site international experiences. They include: 7 activity-rich days in Paris with classes given on-site at the cultural, historical and political institutions you are studying, 6 nights in hotels, numerous group meals, site visits, cultural activities and UF credit. Spring Break 2010 courses include:

    (May 2 – 8 and May 2 – 15, 2010) — Innovative programs for intensive study abroad in Paris expressly created to provide in-depth on-site international experiences. They include: 13* activity-rich days in Paris with classes given on-site at the cultural, historical and political institutions you are studying, 13* nights in hotels, numerous group meals, site visits, cultural activities and UF credit (*6 days, 6 nights for weeklong program). 2010 courses include:

  • World Heritage in Practice
    (January through April, 2010)For the better part of a millennium, Paris has thrived as a work of art, a working metropolis, and a global magnet … reinventing itself with each époque. The WORLD HERITAGE IN PRACTICE program is enhanced by its setting in Paris among world-renowned museums and architectural monuments, reinforced by the presence of the foremost world cultural organizations headquartered in the city, including UNESCO, International Council on Monuments and Sites, and the World Monuments Fund.

SUMMER SEMESTER

  • Summer Study Abroad
    (UF credits: 6-7)

    (June 13-July 23, 2010) — Students spend six weeks immersed in the rich environment of Paris where they will live and study. Classes are given daily at the Paris Research Center and each program offers students 6-7 credits, numerous group activities and meals, cultural activities, site-visits, and guest lectures by distinguished scholars in their fields of study. All courses have been designed by specialists in their fields and have been selected for academic excellence. Summer courses include:
