Study Abroad Paris Fall Semester
Design Studio in Landscape Architecture
Fall Semester Design Studio in Landscape Architecture
With the intention of providing French landscape architectural content
within American education standards of quality, the Paris Research Center
offers a fall semester-length study abroad program taught by landscape
architectural faculty of our program.
Credits: Students earn 9-12 credits for coursework
completed.
Prerequisite: Introductory Landscape Architecture
Courses:
- Landscape Architecture Design Studio
LAA 4952/6952, 6 credits
The design studio is located in an idyllic garden atelier on the Reid
Hall campus. For part of the semester, students collaborate with architecture
students at the École d’Architecture-Bellville whose faculty
includes many of France’s noted practitioners in landscape design.
At the end of the fall semester, their joint work is presented to a
panel of distinguished practicing French professionals and academics
who serve as guest critics and jurors. The work produced through this
collaboration has been truly outstanding, but best of all, has been
the exchange of theories and design methodologies. This is a unique
educational experience for landscape architects in Europe.
- European Topics in Landscape Architecture
LAA 4933/6933, 3 credits
This seminar course is centered around excursions to noted landscape
architecture sites and professional offices. The seminar includes a
week-long tour of Italian landscapes that covers the major urban and
villa sites of Venice, Florence and Rome.
- Beginning or Intermediate French Language and Culture
FRE 1144/LAA 6905, 3 credits
This course, which constitutes the basic sequence in French for the
development of skill in the language, is a student-centered, communicative
language class that integrates the experience and impressions of students
living in Paris. Emphasis is placed on the development of language proficiency
and cultural awareness. The student will work on all language skills
and is asked to take his or her learning outside the traditional learning
environment. Class includes many outside activities.
