Carol Murphy inducted into the Légion d’honneur
Carol Murphy, director of the France-Florida Research Institute and a professor of French in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, received the title Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur, or knight of the legion, for her work in facilitating academic and research collaboration between France and the United States. The decoration ceremony took place Nov. 17 at the residence of the French ambassador to the U.S. in Washington, D.C.

Chairs Blaise Pascal Research
Call for proposals - DEADLINE: January 10, 2011
The State and the Ile-de-France Region are establishing new International Research Chairs to accommodate highly qualified, internationally acclaimed, foreign research scientists in all scientific fields : exact sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences, applied sciences and new technologies.
Each Chair allows the foreign scientist to be hosted for 12 full months, possibly spread over 2 years, in one or more well-known Higher Learning or Research Institutions in Paris/Ile-de-France that are focused on a particular scientific project and are able to provide the suitable environment, equipment and means required.
The global financial amount attributed to each project can go up to 200 000 € which includes among other things, salaries, social charges, taxes, accompanying expenses. The candidates are required to give about ten lectures (pedagogical program to be joined), will have to deliver an activity report and to organize a public seminar at the end of the period.
A multi-disciplinary jury, in association with the French Institute, will select 4 applicants for 2011 based on the scientific interest of the project for Ile-de-France Region, on its interdisciplinary characteristic and the quality of the application.
The applications must be received before 10 January 2011. The foreign candidate may be hosted in Ile-de-France as early as September 2011.

Assistantship Programs
Teach English in France! Every year, the French Ministry
of Education and the Cultural Services at the French
Embassy offer between 1,000 and 1,500 teaching assistant
positions in French primary and secondary schools and
in Instituts universitaires de formation des maîtres
(IUFMs) in all regions of France and the DOM_TOMs.
Youth International Meetings / Rencontres Internationales de Jeunes
Each year, the French Cultural Services in the United
States offer nearly 50 Youth International Meetings
grants (Rencontres Internationales de Jeunes _ RIJ)
allowing Americans aged 18 to 25 to spend 9 to 15 days
in France.
All expenses (accommodation, meals, activities) of these youth meetings are paid for by the French Government. However, the candidates have to pay their round trip to the meeting point in France.
Eligibility: Anyone with a good knowledge of French, and interested in French culture, life and language.

Chateaubriand Fellowships in the Social Sciences and the Humanities
The Office for Science and Technology of the Embassy of France in the United States offers a grant called the Chateaubriand
Fellowship in the Social Sciences & the Humanities
for research in France on French literature, cinema, the
humanities, the arts, history, philosophy, political sciences.
Chateaubriand Fellowships allow you to:
- benefit from an experience in a French University
- develop Franco-American academic partnerships
Eligibility:
- Students enrolled in American Universities - Ph.D candidates or Post docs- in the Humanities or Social Sciences
- Candidates do not have to be U.S. citizens but must be enrolled in an American university (French citizens are not allowed to apply)
- Candidates must obtain a letter of invitation from a French university, a Grande Ecole or a research institution before applying
- No particular level of French is required, though most
students need a certain level in order to conduct their
research
Benefits:
- Allowance of about €1300/ month
- A round-trip ticket to France
- A health insurance while in France
- About 30 days per diem for travelling in France for research purposes
Calendar:
- Application deadline: December 15th, 2010
- Evaluation process: from January to February
- Decision announced in March
- The fellowship begins between Sep. 15 - Oct. 15 of the fellowship year and lasts 9 months
Factors considered in the evaluation of a candidate’s application:
- necessity to be in France for an extended period of time
- quality and originality of the proposed research project
- choice of an appropriate French professor for the candidate’s research proposal
- letters of recommendation
- letter of invitation
- curriculum vitae, list of publications, and academic transcripts

Partner University Fund (PUF)

CALL FOR PROJECTS
2011-2012
The Partner University Fund (PUF) was created in May 2007 to promote innovative partnerships in research and higher education between French and American institutions of higher learning and research.
With a budget of 1.4 million USD allocated for its first call for projects, PUF aims to fund lasting partnerships in all disciplines in order to promote sustainable academic cooperation and mutual understanding between France and the United States
Purpose
PUF supports emerging transatlantic partnerships over
a three year period, subject to annual
review by the selection committee.
Partnerships may combine elements such as: joint initiatives
in research and publications, faculty and postdoctoral
mobility, collaboration in teaching, shared programs,
joint and dual degrees at the master’s and Ph.D
level.

Two programs at the Institut Pasteur in Paris for U.S. citizens
Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Paris
These three-year fellowship positions are open to American post-doctoral scientists wishing to pursue research at the Institut Pasteur. With 2500 people of 60 nationalities, the 130 research labs of the Institut Pasteur are devoted to the basic science of improving global public health with particular emphasis on infectious diseases. Undergraduate Summer 2011 Internships in Paris
These 10-week internships at the Institut Pasteur, one
