"As a medical school candidate, I soon will enter the constantly changing world of medicine and healthcare. Economic markets around the globe fluctuate continuously, and with that, so does the American healthcare system, especially as such a hot topic in political affairs. By studying medical outsourcing around the globe, I hope to discover the economic implications this growing trend has for my future peer physicians domestically and abroad, as well as for insurance companies, patients, and citizens around the world."

Research Description
Medical Outsourcing and Its Effects: A Global Perspective
Costs of medical procedures in America are growing at about five to six times the rate of inflation. Because of this, Americans and some American insurance companies are utilizing much less costly medical procedures in foreign countries, namely India for non-elective procedures and Brazil for cosmetic surgeries. For my honors thesis, I plan to examine the economic effects "medical tourism" has on the various participants in the medical system, both domestically and abroad. I will analyze the costs involved, the flow of participants, and the general industry. From this, I will address country-wide financial implications associated with medical outsourcing.
