Research Description
Exploring the Surface Topology of AAV Capsids
Adeno Associated Virus (AAV). AAV is a very promising gene therapy vector and different serotypes are more effective in reaching specific areas of the body (such as heart and brain). My research involves characterizing AAV2 surface topology and determining how capsid structure influences viral infectivity. Using a variety of proteases, I am also working to expand a "fingerprint" database that can distinguish between viral serotypes via their proteolytic cleavage profile.
